Bobichon ousts Mannarino 6-3 7-5 in Rennes; Cecchinato and Trungelliti set up Szczecin meeting

Matisse Bobichon produced the most eye-catching result recorded so far at the Rennes Challenger, beating Adrian Mannarino 6-3 7-5 in the round of 16. The other Rennes matches on the list went the distance: Francesco Maestrelli recovered to beat Yanis Ghazouani Durand 4-6 7-6 6-3, and Tristan Schoolkate came back from a set down to defeat Anton Matusevich 6-7 6-4 6-4.

In Szczecin, both reported round-of-16 results also needed three sets. Marco Cecchinato edged Marvin Moeller 7-6 6-7 6-2, while Marco Trungelliti dropped the opening tie-break before beating Filip Pieczonka 6-7 7-5 6-4. The two winners are scheduled to meet in the quarterfinals on 18 September.

At the WTA event in Sao Paulo, the three completed round-of-16 matches were all straight-sets affairs: Suzan Lamens beat Solana Sierra 6-3 6-2, Kaitlin Quevedo defeated Leme Da Silva N. V. 6-2 6-1, and Alina Charaeva got past Elina Avanesyan 6-2 6-3. Quevedo is due to face Teodora Kostovic in the quarterfinals.

Caldas da Rainha, by contrast, delivered three decided-in-the-third results. Francisca Jorge beat Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva 6-2 4-6 6-4, Malaika Rapolu came through against Noma Noha Akugue 4-6 6-3 6-0, and Jeline Vandromme edged Elena Malygina 6-3 4-6 7-5. On the Valencia clay, Alicia Herrero Linana beat Rebeka Masarova 6-1 6-2 and Irene Burillo Escorihuela defeated Nastasja Schunk 6-2 6-2, with Maristany G. needing three sets to see off Bassols M. 6-3 3-6 6-4.

Thursday's schedule is headlined by Davis Cup singles, including Jiri Lehecka against Ben Shelton and Jakub Mensik against Learner Tien, alongside the WTA 1000 Guadalajara quarterfinals between Marta Kostyuk and Liudmila Samsonova and between Peyton Stearns and Sloane Stephens.
