Birrell beats Volynets in three sets in Seoul

Australia's Kimberly Birrell defeated American Katie Volynets 2-6 6-2 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the WTA hard-court tournament in Seoul. Birrell's serve figures recorded one ace against nine double faults, with 62.8% of first serves in, 59.3% of first-serve points won and 37.1% won behind the second serve; she faced 10 break points and saved four, a rate of 40%. Volynets landed 76% of her first serves but won 49.4% of those points, against 52% on the second delivery, and struck one ace with one double fault. She faced 16 break points and saved nine, 56.2%.
