Gea recovers from two sets to one down to beat Zheng at US Open

Arthur Gea came through a five-set swing in the US Open round of 32, taking the opener 7-6 before Michael Zheng reeled off 6-3, 6-2 in the score's middle sets and then falling away 3-6, 2-6 as the Frenchman surged home. The serve numbers explained the turnaround: Gea landed 65.3 percent of his first deliveries and won 72.4 percent of those points, while Zheng managed just 44.8 percent first serves in and 66.7 percent of them won. Gea's eight double faults were the one blemish, offset by six aces to Zheng's seven. The American's reliance on second balls, won at 50 percent, could not survive that gap, and Gea moved on with a hard-earned win.
