Sonmez routs Shymanovich 6-1 6-1 in Guadalajara second round
Zeynep Sonmez needed barely an hour's worth of resistance to sweep past Iryna Shymanovich 6-1 6-1 in the round of 32 at the WTA 1000 in Guadalajara. The Turkish player's serve was the foundation: 70 percent of her first deliveries found the box, she won 71.4 percent of those points and an unusually high 66.7 percent behind her second, with one ace and not a single double fault. Shymanovich, by contrast, landed only 51.4 percent of first serves, won 47.4 percent of them and just 22.2 percent behind the second, coughing up five double faults. For Sonmez, it was a statement win at the highest level below the majors.
