Shelton outlasts Hurkacz in four sets at US Open
Ben Shelton came through a four-set battle with Hubert Hurkacz 6-3 5-7 7-6 7-5 to reach the US Open third round, holding his nerve in a tight third-set tiebreak before edging the fourth. The American's serve was the steadier of the two: he landed 71.7% of first serves and won 73.7% of those points, while backing it up with 64.1% behind the second ball. Hurkacz struck 14 aces to Shelton's six, but made only 58.3% of first serves and coughed up seven double faults, winning just 55.2% of second-serve points. That margin decided it.
