Dart rallies past Stearns in three sets at US Open
Harriet Dart came from a set down to beat Peyton Stearns 3-6 6-3 6-2 in the US Open first round, taking control once the match settled into a decider. The Briton's serve carried her through the turnaround: seven aces against three double faults, 65.0% of first-serve points won and a solid 47.7% behind the second ball. Stearns landed more first serves, 65.3% to 57.7%, but won just 33.3% of her second-serve points and coughed up four double faults, a gap that told across the closing sets. It was a hard-earned main-draw win for Dart in New York.
