Yuan beats Avdeeva 6-3 6-2 to reach US Open qualifying final
Yue Yuan controlled her US Open qualifying semifinal from the outset, dispatching Julia Avdeeva 6-3, 6-2 without ever letting the Russian settle. The Chinese player landed only 53.7 percent of her first serves but was close to untouchable when she did, winning 86.2 percent of those points and 52.0 percent behind her second. Avdeeva found the box more often, at 69.0 percent, yet took just 65.0 percent of her first-serve points and 38.9 percent on her second, and her seven double faults handed over cheap ground. The win carried Yuan into the final qualifying round in New York.
