Pareja beats Shymanovich 6-4 6-2 in US Open qualifying
Julieta Pareja moved a win away from the US Open main draw, beating Iryna Shymanovich 6-4 6-2 in the qualifying semifinals. The American's first serve was the difference: she landed 68.3% of them and won 78% of those points, while Shymanovich found the court with only 50.9% of her first deliveries and took just 58.6% of them. Both players hit two aces and three double faults, but Pareja's leaky second serve, which yielded only 31.6% of points, never cost her because her opening ball kept arriving. The straight-sets win kept her qualifying run alive.
