Sasnovich edges Galfi 7-6 6-3 in US Open qualifying
Aliaksandra Sasnovich came through a tense opening set and then pulled clear, beating Dalma Galfi 7-6, 6-3 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The margins were slim on serve: both players landed barely more than half of their first deliveries, Sasnovich at 54.7 percent and Galfi at 54.2, but the Belarusian was the more reliable behind hers, winning 75.6 percent of first-serve points to Galfi's 71.8. The gap widened on second serve, where Sasnovich took 47.1 percent of points against 42.4 for the Hungarian, who struck three aces to Sasnovich's two. The win carried Sasnovich into the final qualifying round in New York.
