Yuan beats Guo in straight sets in US Open qualifying
Yue Yuan controlled an all-Chinese meeting in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals, seeing off Hanyu Guo 6-2 6-4 without ever losing the initiative. The margin came on second serve: Yuan won 62.1 percent of those points while Guo managed just 35.5 percent, and Guo's six double faults to Yuan's single one kept handing back cheap ground. Yuan landed only 51.7 percent of her first serves but won 77.4 percent behind them, enough to stay comfortable in her own games. Both players struck two aces. The win carried Yuan another step closer to the main draw.
