Ilagan edges Boyer in three sets in US Open qualifying
Andre Ilagan came through an all-American three-setter against Tristan Boyer, 6-4 3-6 6-4, to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The serve carried him: 8 aces against only 2 double faults, 63 percent of first serves landed, and 72.5 percent of those points won, a platform Boyer could not match with just 51.1 percent of first serves in. Boyer stayed in the match by winning 60.9 percent behind his second delivery, enough to level after taking the second set, but his 3 double faults and shakier first-serve accuracy told in the decider. Ilagan moves one win from the main draw.
