Lamens edges Jones in three sets in US Open qualifying
Suzan Lamens came through a scrappy three-setter against Emerson Jones, 7-5 6-7 6-2, to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The Dutchwoman's serve was the difference in the long run: she landed 57.1 percent of first deliveries and won 70.3 percent of those points, against 67.8 percent for Jones, and struck seven aces to the Australian's three. Both players were erratic, Lamens dropping eight double faults and Jones seven, but the gap on second serve, 50 percent to 42.2, told in the decider, where Lamens pulled clear.
