Dart battles past Hazelitt in three sets in US Open qualifying
Harriet Dart came through a strange, swinging match to beat Jordyn Hazelitt 6-0, 6-7, 6-1 in the US Open qualifying quarterfinals. The Briton was flawless in the opening set, lost her grip in a second-set tiebreak, then reasserted herself completely in the decider. Serve was shaky on both sides: Dart landed only 50.0 percent of her first deliveries and put in three double faults, while Hazelitt, at 53.6 percent, gave away six and never struck an ace. Dart's 59.5 percent of second-serve points won helped steady the swings, and the win carried her a round closer to the main draw.
