Bouzkova edges Jovic in two tiebreaks in Cincinnati
Marie Bouzkova came through one of the tightest possible straight-setters in the Cincinnati round of 32, beating Iva Jovic 7-6 7-6 without either set being settled before a tiebreak. The margins lived on serve: Bouzkova landed 63 percent of her first deliveries and won 64.7 percent of those points, against 56.8 percent and 54 percent for the American. Jovic was the cleaner server with just one double fault to Bouzkova's five, and edged the second-serve exchanges 55.3 to 53.3, but the Czech's first-ball advantage told in the breakers. Bouzkova moved into the next round with two hours' worth of pressure survived.
