Maria routs Yastremska 6-1 6-2 in Cincinnati first round
Tatjana Maria needed only two one-sided sets to move past Dayana Yastremska 6-1 6-2 in the opening round in Cincinnati. The German's serve was the platform: she landed 57.8 percent of first deliveries and won 76.9 percent of those points, while still taking 63.2 percent behind her second ball, with two aces against a single double fault. Yastremska found a similar first-serve rate at 59.3 percent but won just half of those points, and her second serve collapsed to 27.3 percent alongside four double faults. The win sends Maria into the next round of a WTA 1000 draw.
