Sonmez rallies past Kasatkina in three sets in Cincinnati
Zeynep Sonmez turned a one-sided opening set around to beat Daria Kasatkina 2-6 7-6 6-3 in the Round of 128 in Cincinnati. The Turkish player was outplayed early but stayed close enough on serve to force a second-set tiebreak, and from there the momentum never went back. Kasatkina landed 69.1% of her first serves and hit four aces, yet she also served 10 double faults and won only 40.0% of her second-serve points, against 45.0% for Sonmez. With just 56.5% of first serves in, Sonmez still won 57.7% of those points, enough to earn a notable win at WTA 1000 level.
