Mensik downs Shelton in three sets; Rune edges Dimitrov in Davis Cup action

Jakub Mensik recovered from a set down to beat Ben Shelton 5-7 6-4 6-3 in Davis Cup World Group Qualifying, one of the headline singles rubbers recorded so far on Saturday.
In World Group I, Holger Rune needed three sets to get past Grigor Dimitrov 3-6 6-3 7-6, the second tie-break finish of the group after Valentin Vacherot defeated Otto Virtanen 7-6 4-6 6-4. Elsewhere in the same category, Casper Ruud beat Fnu Nidunjianzan 6-2 6-0, Francisco Cerundolo defeated Yanki Erel 6-0 6-4 and Peter Makk saw off Reiter M. 6-1 6-2, while Elmer Moller (6-2 6-4 over Iliyan Radulov), Jesper de Jong (6-2 6-4 against Samuel Heredia) and Hamad Medjedovic (6-4 6-4 over Vilius Gaubas) also won in straight sets.
The other qualifying results went to Dino Prizmic, a 6-4 6-3 winner over Daniel Altmaier, and Arthur Fery, who beat Alvaro Guillen Meza 7-5 6-0. In World Group II, Angel Hernandez (6-4 6-2 v Richard Mallory), Damir Dzumhur (6-4 7-5 v Khololwam Montsi) and Alan Magadan (6-4 6-1 v Daniel Phillips) all came through.
On the Challenger circuit, Rennes produced its two finalists in Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg, who beat Titouan Droguet 4-6 7-6 6-3, and Harold Mayot, a 6-3 6-3 winner over Tristan Schoolkate. Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo (6-3 6-4 v Luka Mikrut) and Thiago Monteiro (6-4 3-6 6-3 v Marco Trungelliti) advanced in Szczecin, and Alejandro Moro Canas beat Jay Clarke 6-3 4-6 6-2 in Biella.
Among the women, Alicia Herrero Linana (6-0 6-3 v Yasmine Kabbaj) and Clara Burel (6-1 6-4 v Joelle Lilly Sophie Steur) reached the Valencia final, with Mona Barthel and Samira De Stefano through in Ljubljana. Sunday's Caldas da Rainha final pairs Gabriela Andrea Knutson and Lisa Pigato, while Prizmic meets Alexander Zverev.
