Swiatek Cruises Past Parry in Cincinnati as Cobolli Survives Jodar Scare
Iga Swiatek needed only 6-3, 6-3 to see off Diane Parry in the Cincinnati round of 16, while Flavio Cobolli had to dig out of a set down to beat Rafael Jodar and keep the Challenger circuit's fullest day of the week turning from Roehampton to Prague, Sion and Kingston.

Iga Swiatek delivered the cleanest performance of the day at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, dispatching Diane Parry 6-3, 6-3 in a round-of-16 match that never really escaped her control. The Frenchwoman found pockets of resistance in both sets, but Swiatek's baseline depth and refusal to hand over cheap points kept the margins comfortable; two identical scorelines told the story of an afternoon managed rather than survived.
The men's equivalent in Ohio was a rather more strained affair. Flavio Cobolli lost the opening set 4-6 to Rafael Jodar and needed a tie-break to level, eventually closing out 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. The second-set breaker was the hinge of the match: Jodar had been the sharper player through an hour of play, and once the set slipped away his hold on the contest loosened. Cobolli's ability to raise his level precisely when the match was on the line was the difference.
The deepest programme of the day came at Roehampton, where all eight round-of-16 places were decided on hard courts. Oliver Tarvet came through the most demanding of them, beating Matheus Pucinelli De Almeida 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 after conceding the second set, and he will meet Charles Broom, a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Alex Rybakov. Anton Matusevich was the most emphatic of the British contingent, brushing aside Elmer Moller 6-1, 6-3, while Mark Ceban denied Iliyan Radulov 6-1, 7-6. Michael Geerts recovered from a set down to eliminate Radu Albot 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, Lucas Poullain handled Viktor Durasovic 6-4, 6-2, Gabi Adrian Boitan turned around a first-set deficit against Alastair Gray to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Lui Maxted edged Patrick Brady 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in the longest of the eight.
On the Prague clay, Norbert Gombos produced the sort of veteran recovery the surface rewards, dropping the opening tie-break to Sean Cuenin before winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. Maxim Mrva was ruthless against Cezar Cretu, 6-1, 6-2, and Rehberg M. H. needed little more time to see off Kimmer Coppejans 6-4, 6-1. Radu Mihai Papoe beat Javier Barranco Cosano 6-4, 6-3, Jianu F. C. got past Rudolf Molleker 7-6, 6-4, and Chun Hsin Tseng closed strongly to beat Juan Bautista Torres 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
Sion offered the day's tightest finish. Lorenzo Giustino outlasted home hope Henry Bernet 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, while Dominic Stricker kept the Swiss interest alive with a controlled 6-4, 6-4 win over Lucio Ratti. Benjamin Hassan recovered from 3-6 down to beat Sandro Kopp, Mika Brunold saw off Calvin Hemery 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, Dimitar Kuzmanov beat Alex Marti Pujolras 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, and Geoffrey Blancaneaux was untroubled against Jeffrey Von Der Schulenburg, 6-3, 6-4.
Elsewhere, Daniil Glinka produced arguably the most notable Challenger result of the day in Kingston, beating Elias Ymer 6-4, 6-3, with Juan Carlos Prado Angelo also advancing after a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Andres Andrade. In Quebec City, Taro Daniel needed only 6-3, 6-2 to remove Duncan Chan.
