Han Shi of China defeated Tereza Mihalikova 6-0, 6-2 in the qualifying semifinals of the WTA 1000 event in Beijing, on hard courts. Shi landed 55.2 percent of her first serves and won 65.6 percent of those points, along with 57.7 percent behind her second delivery; she faced seven break points and saved all seven. Mihalikova put 72.5 percent of first serves in play but won 45.9 percent of those points and 42.9 percent of her second-serve points, saving nine of the 14 break points she faced. Each player struck one ace and hit two double faults.
