Molcan edges Kopriva 7-6 2-6 7-6 in Beijing qualifying
Alex Molcan of Slovakia beat Czech Vit Kopriva 7-6 2-6 7-6 in the qualifying semifinals of the ATP 500 in Beijing, played on hard courts. Molcan landed 73.6 percent of his first serves and won 71.8 percent of those points, adding 57.1 percent behind the second delivery, with four aces and one double fault. Kopriva struck 11 aces against six double faults, put 63.2 percent of first serves in and won 76.4 percent of those points, but took 40.5 percent on his second. Each man faced nine break points, Molcan saving five and Kopriva seven.
