Chwalinska beats Mertens 6-2 6-2 in Singapore quarterfinals

Maja Chwalinska of Poland defeated Belgium's Elise Mertens 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the WTA hard-court event in Singapore. Chwalinska landed 68.8 percent of her first serves and won 69.7 percent of those points, adding 60.0 percent behind her second delivery, with one ace and two double faults. She faced four break points and saved three, a rate of 75.0 percent. Mertens struck three aces against two double faults but put only 55.4 percent of first serves in play, winning 45.2 percent of first-serve points and 48.0 percent on the second, saving four of the nine break points she faced.
