Samsonova edges Kostyuk in three sets in Guadalajara

Liudmila Samsonova of Russia defeated Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk 4-6 6-2 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 hard-court event in Guadalajara. Samsonova landed 75.2% of her first serves and won 58.2% of those points, along with 57.7% of her second-serve points; she hit no aces against six double faults and saved five of the nine break points she faced. Kostyuk struck three aces with six double faults, put 56.3% of her first serves in play and won 70.7% of those points, compared with 31.1% behind her second delivery, saving seven of 13 break points faced.
