Stearns beats Parry 6-2 7-5 to reach Guadalajara quarter-finals
Peyton Stearns came through a messy but controlled straight-setter, beating Diane Parry 6-2 7-5 in the Guadalajara round of 16. The American's return did the damage: she carved out 12 break points and converted six of them, feasting on a Parry serve that landed only 47.5% of first deliveries and won just 37.5% of second-serve points. Stearns was far from flawless herself, striking seven double faults and saving only three of the six break points she faced, but 72.7% behind her first serve kept the margin safe. It sent her into the quarter-finals at a WTA 1000.
