Teodora Kostovic made a clean start in Sao Paulo, seeing off home hope Victoria Luiza Barros 6-2 6-4 in the Round of 32. The Serbian's first delivery was the difference: she landed 61.8% of them and won 82.4% of those points, while Barros found the court with just 52.9% of her first serves and took only 59.5% behind them. Both players were untidy at times, Kostovic dropping four double faults and Barros five, and the Brazilian's 45.5% on second serve was not enough to hold the second set.
