Monnet outlasts Scott in three sets to reach Guadalajara main draw
Carole Monnet came through a long, scrappy qualifying final in Guadalajara, edging Katrina Scott 7-6 6-7 6-2 after two tiebreak-length sets finally gave way to a one-sided decider. Neither server dominated: Monnet landed 62.9% of her first deliveries and won 59.0% of those points, while Scott managed just 57.0% first serves in and 55.1% of those points. Both were vulnerable behind the second ball, Monnet winning 43.5% and Scott 42.3%, and the Frenchwoman's ten double faults, to Scott's six, kept the match on a knife edge. Three aces apiece summed up the parity before Monnet pulled clear for a main-draw place.
