Bosio edges Cabrera in three sets in Sao Paulo qualifying
Veronica Bosio came through a long, scrappy afternoon to beat Lizette Cabrera 7-5 6-7 6-3 in the qualifying semifinals in Sao Paulo. The Italian took a tight opener, was pegged back in a second-set tiebreak, then steadied herself to control the decider. The serve numbers explain the margin: both players landed barely more than half their first deliveries, but Bosio won 66.1% of those points to Cabrera's 53.3, and 43.8% behind her second serve against the Australian's 37.1. Cabrera's 12 double faults, against four from Bosio, proved decisive, and the win carried the Italian through in qualifying.
