Shymanovich beats Sanchez 7-5 6-2 in Guadalajara qualifying
Iryna Shymanovich came through the Guadalajara qualifying semifinals with a 7-5 6-2 win over A. S. Sanchez, edging a tight opening set before pulling clear in the second. The Belarusian's first serve was erratic, landing just 51.4 percent of the time and costing her six double faults, but it did damage when it found the box, winning 60.5 percent of those points. Sanchez was far more reliable at 76.4 percent first serves in, yet won only 40.5 percent behind them and never struck an ace. That gap in free points decided the match and carried Shymanovich into the final qualifying round.
