Zverev cruises past Van de Zandschulp in US Open quarterfinals

Alexander Zverev needed only a brief scare to reach the US Open semifinals, dismissing Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 in a quarterfinal he controlled almost throughout. The German's platform was his first delivery: he landed 69.8% of them and won 76.7% of those points, striking eight aces despite seven double faults. Van de Zandschulp, by contrast, found the first-serve box only 53.2% of the time, and his second ball was punished, yielding just 37.8% of points won. That gap explained the second set, where the Dutchman hung on to 5-5 before Zverev pulled clear. The win carried Zverev into the last four in New York.
