Tiafoe rallies from two sets down to beat Michelsen in five
Frances Tiafoe survived an all-American US Open quarterfinal, recovering from two sets down to beat Alex Michelsen 5-7 3-6 7-5 6-3 7-6. Michelsen controlled the early exchanges behind a huge serving day, finishing with 21 aces and winning 72.8 percent of his first-serve points, but his nine double faults and 47.1 percent return on second serve gave Tiafoe the openings he needed late. Tiafoe landed only 50.8 percent of his first serves, yet he won 67.4 percent of those points and 51.7 percent behind his second, enough to stay afloat through the fifth-set tie-break. The comeback carried him into the semifinals.
