Pegula beats Navarro in three sets to reach US Open semifinals
Jessica Pegula recovered from a set down to beat fellow American Emma Navarro 3-6 6-4 6-3 in the US Open quarterfinals. Navarro struck first, but Pegula's serve steadied as the match wore on: she landed 61.0 percent of her first deliveries and won 68.9 percent of those points, edging Navarro's 58.4 percent and 62.1 percent. Both were vulnerable behind the second ball, Pegula winning 41.0 percent to Navarro's 40.4, and both were untidy, with eight double faults from the winner and seven from the loser. Navarro's eight aces to Pegula's six were not enough, and the all-American duel sent Pegula through in New York.
