Zverev sees off Darderi in straight sets to reach US Open quarters

Alexander Zverev controlled his US Open fourth-round meeting with Luciano Darderi, taking the first two sets 6-2, 6-2 before closing out a tighter third in a tie-break. The German's serve set the tone: 13 aces, 72 percent of first serves in play and 86.4 percent of those points won, giving Darderi almost nothing to attack. The Italian, by contrast, landed only 48.1 percent of first serves and won just 36.4 percent behind the second, a shortfall compounded by seven double faults. Zverev's five double faults were the only blemish on an otherwise commanding afternoon that carried him into the quarter-finals.
