Michelsen beats Etcheverry in straight sets at US Open
Alex Michelsen reached the US Open quarterfinals the hard way, winning a tight straight-setter 7-6 6-4 6-4 over Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the round of 16. The American landed only 52.9% of his first serves but was close to untouchable behind them, winning 81.5% of those points and firing 12 aces to Etcheverry's six. The difference came on second serve: Michelsen took 58.3% of his, while the Argentine, who did not hit a single double fault, managed just 49.0%. Seven double faults did not cost Michelsen a set.
