Pegula beats Cirstea 6-3 6-4 to reach US Open quarter-finals

Jessica Pegula controlled her US Open fourth-round meeting with Sorana Cirstea from the front, closing it out 6-3 6-4 without ever surrendering the initiative. The American landed only 45.9% of her first serves, but she made them count, winning 67.9% of those points and firing five aces against Cirstea's one. The Romanian's delivery gave her far less shelter: just 47.2% of her first-serve points went her way and only 35.3% behind the second. Pegula's five double faults were the sole blemish on an otherwise clinical afternoon that carried the home favourite into the quarter-finals.
