Sabalenka beats Townsend 6-4 6-3 to reach US Open quarter-finals
Aryna Sabalenka controlled her US Open fourth-round meeting with Taylor Townsend from the front, closing it out 6-4 6-3 without ever letting the American back into the contest. The margin came from the quality behind the first ball: Sabalenka landed 71.7 percent of her first serves and won 63.6 percent of those points, while Townsend, on a near-identical 71.6 percent, converted only 56.2 percent. Both were vulnerable behind the second serve, Sabalenka winning 30.8 percent of those points and Townsend just 21.1, and Townsend's six aces were undone by three double faults. Sabalenka moves into the quarter-finals in New York.
