Tien outlasts Mensik in five sets at the US Open
Learner Tien came from a set down in the decider-bound battle to beat Jakub Mensik 6-3 1-6 6-7 6-3 6-4 in the US Open round of 32. Mensik's serve was the more explosive weapon, with 23 aces and 80.2 percent of first-serve points won, but he landed only 59.1 percent of first deliveries and won just 44.6 percent behind the second. Tien served far more steadily at 66.1 percent in, and his 54.4 percent on second serve gave him the cushion Mensik lacked. Both men struck eight double faults; only the American found a way through in five.
