Darderi eases past Sweeny in straight sets at US Open

Luciano Darderi never let the match slip from his grip, seeing off Australia's Dane Sweeny 6-4 6-3 6-3 in the US Open third round. The Italian's serve did the heavy lifting: only 53.8 percent of his first deliveries landed, but he won 74 percent of those points and a healthy 58.1 percent behind the second ball, cushioning his four double faults. Sweeny, by contrast, put more first serves in at 57.8 percent yet converted just 56.2 percent of them and 51.4 percent on second serve, leaving him under constant pressure. Darderi struck seven aces to two and moved on in straight sets.
