Shelton Outserves Shapovalov in Four Sets at US Open

Ben Shelton came through a heavyweight serving contest to beat Denis Shapovalov 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the US Open round of 32, recovering from the second-set tie-break to take control over the closing two sets. The American's reliability off the ground of his delivery told: he landed 70.0 percent of first serves and won 73.5 percent of those points, while striking 14 aces to Shapovalov's eight. The Canadian was sharper when he found the box, winning 77.0 percent of first-serve points, but he made only 56.9 percent and won just 44.6 percent behind the second. Both men served seven double faults. Shelton moves on in New York.
