Starodubtseva rallies past Sakkari in three at US Open

Yuliia Starodubtseva turned a one-sided opening set into a full comeback, losing 1-6 before edging a second-set tiebreak and pulling away 6-2 to beat Maria Sakkari in the US Open round of 64. The Ukrainian did it without a single ace and with only 56.4 percent of her first serves landing, but she was unusually solid behind the second ball, winning 61.0 percent of those points. Sakkari served the cleaner match on paper, with seven aces and 64.2 percent first serves in, yet 57.4 percent won behind it was not enough. Starodubtseva moved into the third round.
