Bergs outlasts De Jong in four sets at the US Open

Zizou Bergs came through a scrappy, swinging contest to beat Jesper de Jong 7-5 1-6 6-2 7-6 in the US Open round of 64, riding out a one-sided second set before regaining control. Neither man found rhythm on serve: Bergs landed just 53.4 percent of first deliveries and De Jong only 46.8 percent, and the Dutchman's 16 double faults, twice the Belgian's eight, proved the decisive gap. Bergs still won 73.0 percent of his first-serve points to De Jong's 65.2 and struck 10 aces to six. The reward was a place in the third round in New York.
