Navarro recovers from a set down to beat McNally in New York
Emma Navarro dropped the opening set to fellow American Caty McNally but turned the all-USA meeting around, winning 3-6 6-2 6-3 in the US Open round of 64. The difference was the quality of Navarro's first delivery: she landed 58.9 percent of them and won 76.8 percent of those points, alongside five aces to McNally's one. McNally, by contrast, took only 56.9 percent behind her own first serve, leaving her little margin once the match tightened. Navarro's five double faults and 35.9 percent return on second serve were the flaw she covered up, and the comeback carried her into the next round.
