Etcheverry downs Fearnley in four sets at the US Open

Tomas Martin Etcheverry moved into the US Open third round with a 6-3 6-3 3-6 6-3 win over Jacob Fearnley, losing his grip only briefly in the third set before restoring order. The difference lay in the quality of the first ball: the Argentine landed just 59.7 percent of his first serves but won 73.2 percent of those points, while Fearnley found the box more often, at 66.2 percent, and won only 55.7 percent behind it. Eleven double faults from the Briton, against five from Etcheverry, completed the picture on a day when the winner's nine aces were enough.
