Buse outlasts Giron in five sets in US Open first round
Ignacio Buse recovered from a set down and then a fourth-set tie-break loss to beat Marcos Giron 3-6 6-3 6-3 6-7 6-1 in the US Open first round. The Peruvian's serve carried him through the long stretches: he struck 10 aces to Giron's 5 and won 75.8 percent of his first-serve points, against 63.0 percent for the American. Giron landed more first serves, 67.1 percent to 60.3, but could not convert that accuracy into free points, and his 37.7 percent behind the second delivery collapsed in a one-sided decider. It was a maiden main-draw win in New York for Buse.
