Bergs beats Taberner in four sets in US Open first round

Zizou Bergs recovered from the loss of the second set to beat Carlos Taberner 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 in the US Open first round. The Belgian's serve was the difference: he landed only 51% of his first deliveries but won 82.4% of those points, and struck 11 aces to none for his Spanish opponent. Even eight double faults did not undo him, because his second ball still brought 55.1% of its points. Taberner, by contrast, won just 60.3% behind his first serve despite a steadier 59.8% success rate, and faded in the last two sets. Bergs moved into the second round in New York.
