Bartunkova routs Sherif 6-1 6-2 in US Open first round
Nikola Bartunkova needed barely an hour's worth of resistance to overwhelm Mayar Sherif 6-1, 6-2 in the US Open first round. The Czech landed only 46.3% of her first serves, but it hardly mattered: she won 73.7% of those points and an extraordinary 81.8% behind her second delivery, with just one double fault. Sherif, by contrast, got 60.6% of first serves in and could convert only 52.5% of them, dropping to 46.2% on second serve while coughing up five double faults. For Bartunkova, it was a statement arrival on the main draw's biggest stage.
