Townsend routs Preston 6-1 6-1 at the US Open
Taylor Townsend needed barely an hour's worth of resistance to sweep past Taylah Preston 6-1 6-1 in the US Open second round, and the serve numbers explain the rout completely. The American landed 71.9 percent of her first serves and won every single point behind them, adding eight aces against just one double fault, so there was simply nothing for Preston to attack. The Australian, by contrast, made only 56.5 percent of her first serves, won 40 percent of her second-serve points and coughed up seven double faults. For Townsend, it was a flawless home-slam statement.
