Fernandez cruises past Sawangkaew 6-4 6-1 at the US Open
Leylah Fernandez needed only two sets to move through the US Open second round, edging clear late in the opener before running away with a 6-4 6-1 win over Mananchaya Sawangkaew. The Canadian's first delivery did the damage: she landed 66.7 percent of them and won 73.7 percent of those points, giving Sawangkaew almost nothing to attack. The Thai qualifier, by contrast, made just 49 percent of her first serves and coughed up eight double faults, winning only 24 percent behind the second ball. Fernandez's own second serve was shaky at 31.6 percent, but the margin never came under threat.
