Shnaider downs Pliskova 6-1 7-6 in US Open second round
Diana Shnaider brushed aside Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 7-6 in the US Open Round of 64, racing through the opener before holding firm in a second set that went to a tiebreak. The difference was the second ball: Pliskova won just 22.2% of her second-serve points and coughed up six double faults, while Shnaider took 45.0% behind hers. The Russian also made her first serve count, landing 70.6% and winning 77.1% of those points, enough to offset five double faults and a lack of aces against Pliskova's five. It was a statement win over a former US Open finalist.
