Medvedev beats Gorzny in straight sets at US Open

Daniil Medvedev needed no more than three sets to move past Sebastian Gorzny in the US Open second round, winning 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 after a first set that was over almost before it began. The serve did the heavy lifting: Medvedev landed 66.7 percent of his first deliveries and won 87 percent of those points, striking 14 aces against three double faults. Gorzny, with just three aces and five double faults, won only 62.5 percent behind his first serve and 41.7 percent behind his second, and the late resistance in the third set came too late. For Medvedev, it was a clean, economical passage into the next round.
