Jeanjean edges tiebreak, beats Rus in US Open first round

Leolia Jeanjean came through a tense opening set before pulling away to beat Arantxa Rus 7-6, 6-2 in the US Open first round. The set-long stalemate was settled in a tiebreak, and from there the Frenchwoman's first serve did the damage: she landed only 58.6 percent of them but won 78 percent of those points, compared with 67.4 percent for Rus. The Dutchwoman's second delivery was the weak link, yielding just 38.1 percent of points won, and Jeanjean's seven double faults never cost her control. It was a clean start to her campaign in New York.
