Putintseva rallies past Bencic in three sets at US Open
Yulia Putintseva recovered from a set down to beat Belinda Bencic 4-6 7-5 6-3 in the US Open first round, turning the match around from 5-5 in the second. The serve told the story: Putintseva struck six aces to Bencic's none and, on almost identical first-serve accuracy of 56.7 percent against 56.8, won 68.6 percent of those points to the Swiss player's 58.7. Bencic's nine double faults, against four from the Kazakh, undermined a second serve that produced only 52.1 percent of points won. Putintseva's 56.4 percent behind her own second delivery carried her through.
